NEW LONDON, Conn. - Coast Guard women's track & field racked up 96 points to place first at their CGA Spring Invite outdoor home meet. Four Bears won their events to help Coast Guard to the win, while service academy rivals Merchant Marine finished last, in 13th, with eight points, giving the Bears another win in the Secretaries Cup race.
Coast Guard edged out runners-up and adversaries down the street Connecticut College, who scored 91 points, and hosted four fellow New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) schools in the form of Babson College, Salve Regina University, Smith College, and Wellesley College. The Beavers placed fourth (73 points), the Pioneers were fifth (70 points), the Blue sixth (54 points), and the Seahawks tied with Westfield State University for ninth (36 points).
Junior Alaina Stonebraker (Sandy, Utah) won the 400-meter dash with an outdoor-best time of 59.35, moving her up to third on the program's all-time performance list, while fellow junior Ella Besant (Morehead, Ky.) was fourth at 1:00.56.
Junior Claire Semerod (Centennial, Colo.) placed third in the 1500 meters with a collegiate-best time of 4:49.13. Underclass led the way in the 5,000 meters as freshman Brooke Hunter (Phillipsburg, N.J.) placed fifth with a collegiate personal record of 18:19.23 and sophomore Annabel Molner (Bremen, Germany) running 18:27.91 to place sixth.
Junior and 2025 indoor national champion Allie Wildsmith (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) opened her outdoor season by winning the high jump, clearing 1.71 meters (5' 7.25") to set the top outdoor mark among NCAA Division III jumpers. Fellow third-year Mollie Brinker (Wilmington, N.C.) took second place in the pole vault by soaring 3.25 meters (10' 8").
Junior Kaylee Wright (Plainwell, Mich.) pulled off a clutch third attempt to finish second in the long jump at 5.10 meters (16' 8.75"), while senior captain Madelyn Greene (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) posted a 10.50 meter (34' 5.5") performance in the triple jump to place fifth.
Senior Jacey Tippman (Venice, Fla.) placed first in the javelin with a best throw of 30.69 meters (100' 8"), while fellow senior Maureen Hammond (Downington, Pa.) was runner-up in the shot put with a top throw of 10.90 meters (35' 9.25).
