Emlen Tunnell Strength & Conditioning Center
The Strength & Conditioning Center is a two-level, 8,000 square feet facility featuring state of the art weightlifting and exercising equipment. The Center provides a stellar view of the Thames River and Academy waterfront while acting as a top-tier training space for the entire Corps of Cadets.
The Center is named after Emlen Tunnell, a Coast Guardsman and inductee to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Tunnell enlisted in 1943 and was posthumously awarded the Silver Lifesaving Medal in 2011 for his heroism in rescuing shipmates on the USS Etamin in 1944 and the Tampa in 1946. Tunnell was the first defensive player inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 1967.
