Established in 1972, the Coast Guard Academy Athletics Hall of Fame honors graduates who have distinguished themselves with their legacies and performances as cadet-athletes.
In the past, nominees weren't eligible for induction until 20 years after their graduation; this was changed to five years in 2017. There are five types of membership: Regular, Honorary, Team, Pioneer, and Veteran. Inductees are recognized at the Athletics Hall of Fame & Alumni Association Awards Dinner, held annually on the Thursday evening of Homecoming Weekend and halftime of the Homecoming football game.
Alumni, coaches, administrators, and faculty members may nominate eligible individuals. Nominees who do not receive induction in their first year on the ballot will be kept in the active nomination pool for consideration the following year. If they are not selected in their second year of consideration, the nominee must be resubmitted for any future ballots. Nomination forms and supporting documentation must be received by March 31 of the selection year in order for the Hall of Fame Committee to have ample time in weighing their qualifications and achievements (see below).
