Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – In their opening game of the season, the Coast Guard women's basketball fell to SUNY Cortland 60-55 at the Skidmore Invitational.
Junior Meghan Fornaro led all Bears scorers with 21 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Senior Dani Knox added five points five rebounds and four assists for the Coast Guard (0-1).
The Bears charged out to a 19-11 lead in the first half and had a three point lead to finish the period with a score of 31-28.
The second hald saw a back and forth game as there was 12 different changes. Coast Guard led 55-52 with just over three minutes remaining but junior Brittany Dumas and sophomore Cassidy Chapko scored the final eight points to seal the game for the Red Dragons.
SUNY Cortland (1-0) was led by Dumas who finished with a game high 22 points, ten rebounds and two blocks. Senior Erin Wolstenholme nearly had a double double of her own chipping in eight points and nine rebounds of her own.
Coast Guard returns to action tomorrow in the second day of the Skidmore Invitational when they play host Skidmore College at 2:00 pm. To watch the game click here.
