Bears finish regular season strong with Senior Day victory over Mount Holyoke

NEW LONDON, Conn. –

On the final day of the schedule across the NEWMAC, Coast Guard closed out their regular season with a 64-25 win vs Mount Holyoke. The Lyons of Mount Holyoke finish off their 2024-25 campaign with a 4-21 record(0-11 NEWMAC).

Prior to the game, Coast Guard honored their three seniors: Glory Blethen(Boothbay, ME), Kelly Hagerty(Emerald Isle, NC), and Julia Mann(Central Square, NY).

CGA jumped out to a comfortable lead early, opening the game on a 15-2 run. They ended the first quarter leading 15-5 and then went to the half up 30-7. In the second half, Coast Guard continued their excellent play vs the Lyons. In the 3rd quarter, they again held Mount Holyoke to single digits, outscoring them 16-6 in the quarter to take a 46-13 lead into the fourth. The second half saw the Bears with numerous stretches of five freshmen on the floor, and each of the six CGA freshmen contributed. Ultimately, Coast Guard would win 64-25 to the standing ovation of the Senior Day crowd.

Coast Guard was led in scoring by Kelly Hagerty and Dorothy Stotts(Edina, MN) who each had 11. Glory Blethen was just behind them with 10. Blethen, the all-time CGA leader in blocks, closed out the regular season with a season high six blocks on her senior day to extend her all-time lead even further to 156. Hagerty had one block on the day which brings her career block total to 100. She is just the third woman in Coast Guard history to reach 100 blocks. Hagerty also tied her season high in rebounds with a team high 13. The always versatile Julia Mann had eight points, six rebounds, two steals, and one assist.

As a team, Coast Guard set season highs in offensive rebounds(35), total rebounds(78), and steals(30).

The Bears enter the NEWMAC Tournament as the #8 seed. On Wednesday they will travel to face #1 in the NEWMAC and #6 in the country Smith College. The time of the game is TBD.
