Kosack Wins ECAC Decathlon; Punches Ticket to NCAA's

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—Junior Clay Kosack was dominant winning  the decathlon easily by 277 points and punching his ticket for the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships next week at the ECAC Division III Track and Field Championship at Springfield College. A total of 1,400 student-athletes from 97 institutions competed.

Kosack, who was seventh entering day two of the decathlon came all the way back and won with 6,384 points while Alec Svoboda from Ithaca was a distant second with 6,107 points. His best finish during day one was a second place finish in the 400 meters (50.94) while placing third in the shot put (38-10.5).

He had a huge second day as he placed third in the discus (114-6) before winning the pole vault (13-7.25) and the javelin (166-0) back-to-back to take a commanding lead into the final event, the 1,500 meters where he placed eighth in 4:39.64 to capture the ECAC championship. His score of 6,107 points is one of the top ten scores in Division III this season.

Also earning All-ECAC honors was junior Ben Wolhaupter who placed third in the pole vault (15-9.25).
