NEW LONDON, Conn. –
The Coast Guard men's track team gave a strong showing with a 10th place finish in the NED3 Championships.
In the 400m,
Ian Naff(Arlington, VA) continued his excellent spring by breaking the school record and winning the event with a time of 47.43. Unfortunately, Naff was injured and unable to complete the 200m finals but teammate
Garrett Lamb(La Vernia, TX) finished 10th in the race. Earlier in the day, Lamb and Naff each contributed to the men's 4x100m team that set the new Coast Guard record in the event with a time of 42.16. Joining Naff and Lamb in the relay were
Adrian Ililau(Koror, Palau) and
Tytan Moore(St. Petersburg, FL). In the 4x400, the Bears team of
Noah Westkott(Waterford, CT),
Grant Kellenberger(Mohnton, PA),
Drew Torell(South Kingston, RI), and
Christian Gottlieb(Harpers Valley, WV) took 19th with a time of 3:30.23. Then in the 4x800m relay, the Bears got themselves onto the podium with the 3rd place finishing team of
Brendan Fant(East Lyme, CT),
Samuel Myers(Ponte Vedra Beach, FL),
James Kuduk(Harleysville, PA, and
Miles Taylor(Austin, TX). Fant, Myers, Kuduk, and Taylor ran a time of 7:49.39.
On Friday night, the highlight for the Bears was in the final event of the night when junior
Paul Hobbs(Vacaville, CA) won the 10k by nearly 12 seconds over 2nd place with a time of 31:32.37 in a dominant performance.
The future is bright for CGA in the air with freshman jumpers making noise both days. In the high jump, freshman
Scott Bayliss(Hudson, OH) soared to an 8th place finish, clearing 1.90 meters. Fellow freshman
Tytan Moore took 14th in the long jump with a leap of 6.57 meters. Moore took 12th in the triple jump with a 13.54 meter performance.
In the field,
Spencer MacKenzie(Destin, FL) and
Vincent Grillo(Wilmington, DE) each finished in the top 20 in their respective events. MacKenzie took 20th in the discus with a 39.23 meter throw. Grillo in turn, took 15th in the shot put with a 13.75 meter chuck. After winning the NEWMAC Championship last week,
Phillip Kirby(North Andover, MA) again gave a great performance in the hammer with a 43.89 meter throw to take 22nd place.
Coast Guard will travel to UMass Amherst next weekend for the NEICAAA Outdoor Championships.
