SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Coast Guard men's track & field secured a fourth-place team finish at the 2025 NEWMAC Track & Field Championships, hosted by Mount Holyoke College between Friday and Saturday. Overall, the Bears had three NEWMAC champions crowned and 3 school record performances to score 87 points in fourth place behind Springfield's 125 points in 3rd place.
Ian Naff (Arlington, Va.) won two events, the 200 meters and 400 meters, and anchored the men's 4x100 with Glenn Patrick (Fairhope, Ala.), Garrett Lamb (La Vernia, Tex.), and Tytan Moore (St. Petersburg, Fla.). The team ran to a fourth-place finish and a new school record time of 42.30. The 400 saw Naff run his way to a triple record (school, facility, and NEWMAC) after running 47.82. Before closing out the day by winning the 200 meters with a 21.76.
Patrick also set a new school record and established himself as Coast Guard's fastest man by placing eighth in the 100-meter dash, running 10.84. Patrick now owns the top times for the indoor 60-meter dash and the 100.
Brendan Fant (East Lyme, Conn.) was fourth in the 1500-meter run, crossing the finish line in 4:02.27 with teammate James Kuduk (Harleysville, Pa.) placing seventh and running 4:06.72. Freshman Miles Taylor (Austin, Tex.) and sophomore Christian Gottlieb (Harpers Ferry, W.Va.) were seventh and eighth in the 800 meters by running 1:58.60 and 1:58.75, respectively. Paul Hobbs (Vacaville, Calif.) was eighth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:32.58.
In the field events, Spencer Mackenzie (Destin, Fla.) earned a podium spot at third in the discus with his top mark at 41.86 meters (137' 4"), while Vincent Grillo (Wilmington, Del.) picked up critical points with a fourth-place finish and new season personal best of 13.61 meters (44' 8"). In the jumps, Moore placed fifth in the triple with a top distance of 13.17 meters (43' 2.5"), and fellow freshman Scott Bayliss (Hudson, Ohio) was sixth in the high jump after clearing 1.85 meters (6' 0.75").
Members of the men's track & field team will be competing next weekend in the New England Division III Championships, hosted at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy between May 2nd and 3rd.
