NEW LONDON, Conn.—All-American Adam Scalesse broke the facility record in the 55 meter hurdles as Coast Guard won the CGA Winter Invite #2.

The Bears won with 97 points, Westfield State was second with 78.5 points followed by Eastern Connecticut (42) and Trinity (33.5).

Scalesse was the top finisher in the 55 meter hurdles crossing the finish line in 7.61 and broke the facility record set by Blake Novak in 1994.

Also in the sprinting events, sophomore Ben Hannon won the 200 meter dash running a time of 23.40 and teammate Joe Kelly placed second in the 400 meter dash crossing the line in 52.89. In the final event of the day, Hannon and Kelly teamed up with freshman Frederick Higgins and sophomore Kelcey Smith to win the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:33.72.

Coast Guard dominated the distance events starting the day with taking all scoring places in the 3,000 meters with Nicholas Foster (9:23.84) and Jon Lash (9:24.10) placing 1st and 2nd. Jordan Lee was the top finisher in the 800 meter run with a winning time of 2:00.50 while teammate James Martin won the Mile in 4:32.74.

Closing out the distance events for the day, Zack Kearney, Ryan Hub, James Martin and Jordan Lee won the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 8:29.83.

In the field events, Thomas Bondurant led the way in the weight throw by winning the event with a throw of 46' 5.25". Coast Guard placed three athletes in scoring position in both the shot put and the weight throw. In the pole vault, the Bears had three athletes in scoring position with junior co-captain Ben Wolhaupter in the runner-up position clearing a height of 14' 1.25".

Coast Guard will travel to Springfield, Mass. for the Springfield College Invite next Saturday.
