BOSTON, Mass. --
The opening day of the spring 2025 season saw the CGA Rowing team in Boston to race MIT. Racing started at 0900 with the first varsity men. The temperature around 40 degrees with a stiff headwind. Both varsity boats did an excellent job getting aligned and powered off the starting line. For the first 700 meters the race was very tight (with just a seat or two separating the two boats). MIT moved to a solid lead as we came through the 1000 and went on to win with a 14.4 second margin. Both boats raced well in the challenging conditions. It was a strong race for our team vs. a D1 opponent (MIT races as a D1 school in rowing) and a good steppingstone for the season ahead.
Next up was the second varsity eight which included 4/c
Lucas Guerra(Charlottesville, VA) as stroke. The boat came off the line strong. At the 1000-meter mark MIT had opened the margin to 3 to 4 seconds. CGA held MIT to that margin through the third 500 before MIT opened to a final 6.7 second margin. This was a solid showing for a young boat and, as they build trust and confidence, I believe we will see some great racing from them this year.
The final race for the men was the third varsity with 4/c Riley Ritter(New York, NY) at the helm and included several 4/c in their first 2K race as well as 4/c Parker Anselmi in his first ever race. We were running a bit late the quick start took them by surprise, but they recovered well and had a strong showing behind a more experienced MIT crew.
