WORCESTER, Mass. - An exciting second day of action at the 2025 NEWMAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championships featured two wins and four podium placements for Coast Guard.
The two wins can be credited to senior captain
Sean Lyman (Pennsburg, Pa.) and
Noah Reice (Wilmington, Del.). Lyman had a convincing win on the 500-yard freestyle, with his 4:27.39 being 6.64 seconds faster than the event's runner-up. The NCAA B-cut performance was a vindicating win for the senior after he placed second in last season's 500 Free.
Reice would later win the 50-yard freestyle in electric fashion, timing in at 20.43 after overtaking two of his competitors following the turn. The sophomore's win was a B-cut time that broke a three-year streak of MIT taking both All-Conference spots in the event (first-place finishers are named to First Team, while second place is named to Second Team).
The Bears also put on amazing showings in the day's two relay events. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Reice,
Kacper Buniowski (Bridgewater, N.J.),
Michael Carden (Kennesaw, Ga.), and senior captain
Colin Twiss (Mahwah, N.J.) were runners-up after clocking 1:21.93; later, in the 400-yard medley relay, the team of Lyman,
Blaise Minckler (Hilton Head Island, S.C.), Reice, and Twiss were runners-up with a B-cut time of 3:16.57. The win was also a new school record, breaking the previous mark by 3.2 seconds, and made the senior captains three-time All-Conference honorees, while Reice picked up his second.
At the end of Day 2, Coast Guard remains in second with 382 points. Full standings are written below:
1. MIT - 498
2. Coast Guard - 382
3. Springfield - 271.5
