GREENSBORO, N.C. - The 2025 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships got underway at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Coast Guard was represented in two events during morning preliminary trials and evening finals.
Team captain
Sean Lyman (Pennsburg, Pa.) competed in the 500-yard freestyle finals. Entering the event as the 12th seed, Lyman swam 4:24.62 for the top time in the morning trial, earning All-American recognition and setting a new Academy record in the process, as well as a new standard for all NEWMAC swimmers.
The senior went on to swim 4:25.15 in the final for fifth place and securing All-American recognition. The result is a vast improvement on Lyman's performance in the 500 Free at last season's championships, in which he placed 17th and missed out on the final.
Also swimming for Coast Guard today was fellow senior
Colin Twiss (Mahwah, N.J.), who competed in the 50-yard freestyle trials. Twiss swam 20.33 in the prelims, missing out on the finals but setting a new personal record by over a second.
Tomorrow's action will see Lyman compete in the 400-yard individual medley and Twiss in the 200-yard freestyle. Also competing in individual competition, and making his nationals debut, will be sophomore
Noah Reice (Wilmington, Del.) swimming the 100-yard butterfly.
The Bears will also compete in two relays, as freshmen
Kacper Buniowski (Bridgewater, N.J.) and
Zachary McGowen (Springfield, Va.) joining Twiss and Reice for the 200-yard freestyle relay; and fellow first-year
Luke Giguere (Belchertown, Mass.) will compete alongside McGowen, Reice, and Twiss in the 200-yard medley relay.
