WORCESTER, Mass. - Excitement was abundant for the Coast Guard men's swimming & diving team as they opened up the 2025 NEWMAC Championships with a record-setting first-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
The team of
Sean Lyman (Pennsburg, Pa.),
Noah Reice (Wilmington, Del.),
Luke Giguere (Belchertown, Mass.), and
Colin Twiss (Mahwah, N.J.) swam 6:33.07 to set a new meet record and achieve an NCAA B-cut time. After back-to-back runners-up finishes, the mark was a three-second improvement on the previous record set by MIT at last year's championship meet. The Engineers placed second with another B-cut time of 6:36.83. Event winners at the NEWMAC Championships earn First Team All-Conference recognition, while runners-up placed on Second Team.
The only other event of the night was 3-meter diving, which was won by Springfield sophomore
Christian Butler (North Haven, Conn.) with a score of 520.75. Butler also won last year's 3-meter contest as well as the 1-meter variant en route to being named NEWMAC Diver of the Year as a freshman, an accolade he's favored to win again following this season's meet. Babson sophomore
David Krol (Grafton, Wisc.) placed second with 480.80; both scores were NCAA qualifiers.
Coast Guard will enter tomorrow's events as second place in the event standings with 93 points. Full standings are written below:
