United States Coast Guard Academy men's track & field senior
Paul Hobbs (Vacaville, Calif.) took down a 46-year-old Academy record this past weekend at the two-day Farley Inter-Regional Extravaganza Meet, hosted by Williams College.
Hobbs competed in the 10,000 meters on Friday's first day, eventually running 30:15.74 to take 8th place. His run took down the former record set in 1980 by
David Stalters '80. Fellow distance specialist
Brendan Fant (East Lyme, Conn.) also made some movement on the Academy's all-time leaderboards when he ran 1:54.58 in the 800 meters for a new USCGA #9.
The meet's second day on Saturday saw
Glenn Patrick (Fairhope, Ala.) put forth a fantastic day in the 100 meters. The senior sprinter posted a 10.75-second dash in the preliminary heats to qualify for the finals, where he took 1st place by beating out the field in 10.84 seconds. Patrick returned to close out the meet in the 200 meters, in which he placed 8th at 22.16 seconds.
Garrett Lamb (La Vernia, Tex.) was 13th in the same event after running 22.51 seconds.
Sophomore horizontal jumper
Tytan Moore (St. Petersburg, Fla.) was the lone representative for the field side of the Bears men's track & field program. He placed 5th in long jump with a best attempt of 6.69 meters (21' 11.5") before returning later for the triple jump, where his best bound went for 13.64 meters (44' 9").
Coast Guard men's track & field will return on Thursday the 14th to take part in MIT's Last Chance Qualifier.
