NEW LONDON, Conn. —
The United States Coast Guard Academy men's track & field team finished up the 2026 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships with a 5th-place team finish. Coast Guard amassed 78 points, while MIT led the field with 253.
Garret Lamb (La Vernia, Tex.) placed 6th in the 100m with a time of 10.91, while Glenn Patrick (Fairhope, Ala.) was fifth in the 200m running 21.89. Three cadet-athletes placed in the top eight of the 800m, with Miles Taylor (Austin, Tex.) in 5th running 1:56.77 while teammates Christian Gottlieb (Harpers Ferry, W.Va.) and Darius Kirvelevicius (East Lyme, Conn.) were 7th and 8th at 1:56.81 and 1:57.83.
After placing 2nd in the 10k meters on day one, senior Paul Hobbs (Vacaville, Calif.) took to the track once again in the 5k to place 3rd with a time of 14:58.01. Teammate James Kuduk (Harleysville, Pa.) ran 15:15.52 to place 7th. In the 1500m, Brendan Fant (East Lyme, Conn.) was 4th with a time of 3:58.75. Carlos Garcia (Bristow, Va.) and Grant Cross (Rome, Ga.) earned valuable team points with a 7th and 8th place finish in the 3000m steeple, running 10:06.64 and 10:14.36.
Scott Bayliss (Hudson, Ohio) was 4th in the high jump, clearing a bar at 1.90m (6'2.75"). Tytan Moore (St. Petersburg, Fla.) placed 6th in the triple jump with a top mark of 13.41m (44'). Senior Vincent Grillo (Wilmington, Del.) was 4th in the shot put with a personal record toss of 13.87m (45' 6.25"), moving up to #8 on the program's all-time list.
The men's 4x100m relay of Jay Herndon (Centerton, Ark.), Ty Tualomoso (Wailuku, Hawaii), Kai Phan (Huntington Beach, Calif.), and Colin Vislay (Pensacola, Fla.) earned a 5th place finish with a time of 45.59. Coast Guard's final relay of the day was the men's 4x400m with Sam Blake (Severna Park, Md.), Gottlieb, Noah Westkott (Waterford, Conn.), and Taylor running 3:27.43.
Bears men's track & field will return to action next Saturday, with select competitors heading up to Springfield College to compete in the New England Division III Championships.
