CAMBRIDGE, Mass. —
Despite a less than ideal forecast throughout New England for an outdoor track & field meet, three United States Coast Guard Academy men's track cadet-athletes made the trip to MIT for a Last Chance meet. The meet allows athletes across all levels of NCAA to make one last attempt at improving their marks for potential selection to Nationals.
Paul Hobbs (Vacaville, Calif.) took 5th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:45.61, moving up to #3 on the program leaderboard in the process. Fellow distance specialist
Brendan Fant (East Lyme, Conn.) ran 1:54.01 in the 800 meters for 14th and a new USCGA #9.
Coast Guard's lone sprinter was
Glenn Patrick (Fairhope, Ala.), who qualified for the evening's 100-meter dash finals with a 10.88-second effort in the prelims. He'd later trim that down to 10.81 seconds to take 3rd place in the final.
