Naff and Moore lead Bears at Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. –

On an early Spring day in New Jersey, Coast Guard competed at the Monmouth Opener Invite.

Leading the Bears at the opener was junior Ian Naff(Arlington, VA) who won the 400 meter and placed second in the 200 meter dash. Naff first set the tone for the day after crossing the finish line in the 400 meters in 47.82, with a demanding lead over second. Then Naff took second place in the 200 meters with a time of 21.60.

Sophomore Tytan Moore(St. Petersburg, FL) secured two top finishes in the horizontal jumps after winning both the long jump and triple jump. His top long jump performance was 6.66m (21' 10.25") and his top mark in the triple jump was 13.65m (44' 9.5").

Glenn Patrick(Fairhope, AL) sprinted his way to a runner-up spot in the 100 meter dash running 10.92, only three hundredths of a second off first place. Patrick was also 4th in the 200 meter dash running a massive personal best time of 22.27.

Miles Taylor(Austin, TX) was 8th overall in the 800 meter run posting a 1:57.02 with four more teammates running under 2:00 as well.

Brendan Fant(East Lyme, CT) was 4th in the 1500 meter run posting a 4:01.35, a time just outside a top-ten all time performance for CGA, meanwhile, Scott Bayliss(Hudson, OH) placed 5th in the High Jump after clearing 1.90m (6'2.75")

Finally, Hayden Bergman(Magnolia, DE) secured a runner-up position in the men's Pole Vault after soaring over 4.50m (14' 9.25").

While the majority of the Bears team was at Monmouth, the throwers took to Springfield, Mass. on the campus of American International College(AIC) at the Yellow Jacket Open.

At AIC, Vincent Grillo(Wilmington, DE) took 5th in the shot put with a throw of 12.96m. Grillo then took 27th in the discus with a 28.01m throw while freshman Christian Schlauch(Annapolis, MD) and senior Liam Kuperman took 18th and 16th respectively. Kuperman(Bremerton, WA) took 3rd in the hammer with a throw of 40.63m with Schlauch just behind in 6th. Finally, in the javelin, Kuperman again put himself on the podium with a third place throw.
