SPRINGFIELD, Mass. —
Glenn Patrick (Fairhope, Ala.) broke his own 60 Meters record by just 0.04 as the United States Coast Guard Academy men's track & field team saw a great slate of performances at Springfield College's Triangle Classic on Saturday.
Patrick placed third while with a time of 7.00 seconds, surpassing his previous record of 7.04 from last year. Jay Herndon (Centerton, Ark.) and Tytan Moore (St. Petersburg, Fla.) placed fifth and eighth running 7.03 and 7.14. Herndon's time is a new CGA #2 performance, while Moore's mark is tied for fourth.
Garrett Lamb (La Vernia, Tex.) was Coast Guard's top finisher in the 200 Meters, running 22.66 seconds to place fourth while Patrick was eighth running a personal best time of 23.05 seconds.
Christian Gottlieb (Harpers Ferry, W.Va.) was runner-up in the 600 Meters with a time of 1:25.12, while teammate Miles Taylor (Austin, Tex.) was eighth running 1:26.82. In the 800 Meters, Sam Myers (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) was fourth running 2:01.47. Another top finisher in the middle distance events was newcomer Darius Kirvelevicius (East Lyme, Conn.) placing second in the 1000 Meters, crossing the finish in 2:38.04. The top finisher for the Bears in the distance events was freshman Evan Rimmele (Middletown, N.J.) in the 5000 Meters, taking his first win by running a personal best of 15:54.34.
In the throwing events, Vince Grillo (Wilmington, Del.) set a new personal best mark in the shot put with a toss of 14.15 meters (46' 5.25") to place third. Christian Schlauch (Annapolis, Md.) and Liam Kuperman (Bremerton, Wash.) placed ninth and tenth in the weight throw with respective top distances of 14.14 meters (46' 4.75") and 14.12 meters (46' 4").
The Bears had key players in top scoring positions across the jumping events. The highlight of the day came from senior Josh Banks (Henderson, Nev.) in his second meet back to pole vaulting, which saw him place second soaring over 4.85 meters (15' 11"). Moore was third in long jump (6.54 meters, 21' 5.5") and sixth in triple jump (13.31 meters, 43' 8"), while Adrian Ililau (Koror, Palau) posted a season-best long jump at 6.45 meter (21' 2").
Bears men's track & field will now turn their attention towards the postseason, starting with the New England Division III Indoor Championships set to Saturday, February 27th through Sunday the 28th.
