BOSTON, Mass. –
After the Women's Track and Field team had an outstanding day in Boston yesterday, the men followed suit today with a great day of their own at the beautiful New Balance Track in Boston, Massachusetts.
Freshman
Sam Blake(Severna Park, MD) was Coast Guard's top placing athlete in the running events for the day. Blake placed 10th in the 500 meter dash running away with a new #3 performance in Coast Guard Track & Field history with a time of 1:05.42.
Ian Naff(Arlington, VA) was Coast Guard's top finisher in the 200 meter dash running a 21.77 in his debut in that event this year. Teammate
Garrett Lamb(La Vernia, TX) was 25th in the Open 200 meters posting his fastest indoor mark in that event with a time of 22.27. Lamb's time moves into the #3 spot on the All-Time Performance List for Coast Guard. Lamb also ran a new #7 CGA performance in the 60 meter dash with a 7.19. The duo of
Jay Herndon(Centerton, AR) and
Glenn Patrick(Fairhope, AL) both ran 7.16 only separated by thousands of a second.
In the 400 meter dash, Coast Guard's top finisher
Noah Westkott(Waterford, CT) posted a collegiate best time of 52.66, improving upon last year's outdoor mark of 53.14.
Coast Guard had six athletes running in the 800 meters with 4 posting times under the 2:00 barrier and two more within tenths of a second of breaking through as well.
Christian Gottlieb(Harpers Ferry, WV) was the top runner posting a personal record in that event with a time of 1:56.76 placing 66th. Sophomore
Miles Taylor(Austin, TX) also set a 800 meter personal best indoors running 1:57.82. Classmate
Darius Kirvelevicius(East Lyme, CT) and
Sam Myers(Ponte Vedra Beach, FL) also ran well in the event, running 1:58.40 and 1:59.11 respectively.
Three runners competing in the mile,
Dylan Reed(Caledonia, MS),
Carlos Garcia(Bristow, VA), and
James Kuduk(Harleysville, PA) finished within a second of each other, all running their fastest mile times of the season. Freshman
Dylan Reed led the way with a time of 4:24.32 followed closely behind by Garcia and Kuduk running 4:25.40 and 4:25.41 respectively.
Long distance runners
Paul Hobbs(Vacaville, CA) and
Brendan Fant(East Lyme, CT) both set personal records in the 5000 meters. Both runners ran in separate heats, but finished within one place of each other with Hobbs running 14:57.60 (#3 CGA) and Fant crossing the line in 14:58.29 (#4 CGA).
The only relay run for the weekend was the 4x400 team of
Garrett Lamb,
Sam Blake,
Miles Taylor, and
Ian Naff. In their combined efforts, the Bears relay posted a time of 3:22.41 running the fastest 4x400 relay since 2020.
In the field events, freshman
Hayden Bergman(Magnolia, DE) was 9th in the pole vault clearing a bar at 4.15m (13' 7.25"). Shot putter
Vincent Grillo(Wilmington, DE) took 14th place after setting his best mark of the day at 13.82m (45' 4.25"). In the horizontal jumps,
Tytan Moore(St. Petersburg, FL) was 13th in Triple Jump (13.65m, 44' 9.5") and 17th in long jump (6.51m, 21' 4.25").
The Bears will be back home this weekend for the second CGA Winter Invite on the year on Friday February 6th at the Hallie E. Gregory Field House.
