Another School Record Falls for Naff at Monmouth Season Opener

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.  -  Coast Guard men's track & field commenced their 2025 outdoor schedule at the Monmouth Season Opener, hosted by Monmouth University, which saw several Bears cadet-athletes post collegiate-best performances.

Ian Naff (Arlington, Va.) led the sleuth by picking up where he left off from his historic winter and setting a new school record in the 200 meters. The sophomore sprinter spent the indoor season rewriting the event's section in the program record book and now holds the open-air record with his 21.51 dash, breaking the former record of 21.81 set in 1992 by Ross Stroebel '92.

Naff also won the 400 meters, running 47.99 to move into the number two spot on Coast Guard's all-time performance list. Not far behind Naff in the 200 was freshman Garrett Lamb (La Vernia, Tex.), who ran 22.44 in the event after posting a collegiate-best 100 meters time of 11.14 for sixth-best in Academy history.

Finishing ahead of Lamb in the 100 was junior Glenn Patrick (Fairhope, Ala.), whose 11.01 was good for 17th and second in the Bears' outdoor record book. The mid-distance events saw freshman Miles Taylor (Austin, Tex.) and sophomore Christian Gottlieb (Harpers Ferry, W.Va.) place 20th and 21st in the 800 meters with their respective times of 1:58.99 and 1:59.31. In distance action, junior Paul Hobbs (Vacaville, Calif.) set a new personal record in the 5,000 meters, finishing third by running 15:07.89.

The jumping events saw a pair of career days for freshmen Scott Bayliss (Hudson, Ohio) and Tytan Moore (St. Petersburg, Fla.). Bayliss was eighth in the high jump with collegiate personal best jump of 1.90 meters (6' 2.75"), while Moore placed ninth in the triple jump by bounding 13.51 meters (44' 4"). Moore's leap moved him into ninth in program history while he also finished 15th in the long jump with a mark of 6.28 meters (20' 7.25").

Finally, throwing saw sophomore Vincent Grillo (Wilmington, Del.) toss 13.30 meters (43' 7.75") in the shot put to place 14th. Junior captain Adrian Ililau (Koror, Palau) and junior Liam Kuperman (Bremerton, Wash.) both competed in the javelin, with Ililau chucking it 46.15 meters (151. 5") for 15th while Kuperman went 43.27 meters (141' 11").
