BOSTON, Mass. - Coast Guard Academy men's track & field athletes put up solid performances against Division I competition at today's River Hawk Invitational, hosted by UMass Lowell at the TRACK at New Balance.
Sophomore sprinter
Ian Naff (Arlington, Va.) set a new Academy record in the 200 meters, crossing the finish in 22.02. Naff also ran a 7.16 in the 60 meters to move into the no. 3 spot on Coast Guard's all-time list.
Right behind Naff in the 60 meters was junior
Glenn Patrick (Fairhope, Ala.), who's 7.19 was a personal best and the fifth-fastest in Bears history. Freshman
Garrett Lamb (La Vernia, Tex.) alo moved into the top ten by running a 7.35.
Sophomore
Christian Gottlieb (Harpers Ferry, W.Va.) posted a personal best in the 800 meters, running 1:57.86 and shaving almost four seconds off his previous record of 2:01.17. Freshman
Miles Taylor (Austin, Tex.) also had a strong showing in the event, posting a time of 2:00.48.
Sophomore
Brendan Fant (East Lyme, Conn.) ran a 4:25.52 as Coast Guard's top finisher in the mile. Junior
Paul Hobbs (Vacaville, Calif.) ran a lifetime best in the 3000 meters of 8:47.77, finishing 36th overall. Finally, in their collegiate 5k debuts, freshmen
London Layton (Crofton, Md.) and
Malachai Morris (Chino Hills, Calif.) ran 16:28.52 and 16:31.21, respectively.
Bears men's track & field is back at it tomorrow, this time closer to home at the Wesleyan Indoor Invitational. The Cardinals' home meet is set for a 10 a.m. start.
