NEW LONDON, Conn. -
The Coast Guard Bears opened up their 2025 Indoor Track & Field season a home with the CGA Winter Invite. The men's team had 3 event winners and 8 runner-up finishes across the team.
Ian Naff(Arlington, VA) was the event winner in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.62. Naff also placed 4th in the 55 meter dash running 6.65 – a new #5 performance on CG's All-Time List. Naff also anchored the winning 4x200 relay team with
Luke Cherry(Raleigh, NC),
Noah Westkott(Waterford, CT), and
Garrett Lamb(La Vernia, TX). The men's 4x200 team ran 1:35.76, a new #7 CG All-Time performance.
Another event winner came from freshman
James Kuduk(Harleysville, PA) in the mile where he ran a 4:34.30 to win the event by 3 seconds.
Brendan Fant(East Lyme, CT) was the runner-up in the 600 meters with a New England D3 qualifying time of 1:25.43. In the 55 hurdles, senior
Maalik Song(Southlake, TX) placed second running 8.38 in the finals after running 8.41 in the preliminary round.
Another runner-up performance for the Bears came from freshman Sam Myers in the 800 meters. Myers posted a time of 2:01.53. Another freshman securing a runner-up spot was
London Layton after running a 9:20.42 in the 3000 meters.
Two freshmen,
Scott Bayliss(Hudson, OH) and Tytan Moore(St. Petersburg, FL), took runner-up finishes in the jumping events. Bayliss cleared a bar at 1.85m (6' .75") in the high jump while Moore's best mark of 12.82 (42' .75") finished second in the triple jump.
Senior Phil Kirby(North Andover, MA) posted a personal record in the weight throw hitting the qualifying mark for the New England D3 Championships. His best throw of the day was 14.79m (48' 6.25"). Sophomore
Vincent Grillo(Wilmington, DE) also set a personal best mark in the shot put of 13.40 (43' 11.75") to place 3rd.
The Bears will return to action next weekend with two meets, The Riverhawk Invite at the New Balance Track on Friday, January 24th and also the Wesleyan Invite on Saturday, January 25th.
