MOUNT HOLYOKE, Mass. - Coast Guard competed in the Division 3 New England Championships hosted at Mt Holyoke College where the women's track and field team finished 10th place finish among 36 scoring teams. The Bears walked away from the meet scoring 30 points with nine athletes that earned 12x All-New England honors.
Coast Guard's top performer of the D3 New England Championship was sophomore Claire Semerod taking the Runner-up position running 17:39.76 in the 5000 meter run.
Sophia White ran to a 4th place finish in the 800m run in a highly competitive field. White ran a personal record by three seconds to set a new school record of 2:13.18 beating the previous record of 2:15.08 held by Adora Lawrence from 2017.
Also placing in the top eight was senior Madison Garrigus in the pole vault. Garrigus cleared a bar at 3.38m (11' 1") to place 8th overall.
The women's 4x400 relay squad of Ella Besant, Grace Flynn, Alaina Stonebraker, and Makenna Topp medaled in third place running a time of 3:57.08. Their performance was the third fastest 4x400 relay in school history.
In the sprinting events, sophomore Alaina Stonebraker placed 8th in the 100m dash crossing the finish in 12.66. Later in the meet, Stonebraker placed 10th in the 200m running 25.70 while Grace Flynn ran to a personal record time of 25.79 moving up to #3 Coast Guard All-Time.
In the field events, senior Sadie Olson earned All-New England honors in three events, the discus, hammer throw, and shot put. Olson top performance was in the discus with a best throw of 39.07m (128' 2"). She also placed 8th in the hammer throw with a best mark of 46.12m (151' 3") and 8th in shot put with 11.81m (38'9"). Allie Wildsmith also picked up some team points with her 5th place finish in the high jump after clearing 1.62m (5' 3.75").
Women's 4x800 relay of Riley Thorburn, Tara Jessen, Jordan Prinner, and Claire Semerod ran a 9:56 to place 9th and breaking into a 5th fastest relay in CG outdoor track and field history.
