Baseball Splits Close Games With Babson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NEW LONDON, Conn. - Baseball hosted Babson in a conference DH, topping the Beavers in the first and just falling in the second. 

Game one, the Bears came from behind to force extra innings and walk it off in the 10th, 4-3.

Both teams were quiet through the first three innings as the pitchers battled.

Babson put up the first run of the game in the top of the fourth and added on two more in the top of the fifth. 

Bottom of the sixth, Coast Guard plated three of its own. With two on, Richard Barkley stepped up to knock a two-RBI double, bringing the Bears within one. Next batter, John Tacchini singled to bring in Barkley and tie the game at three.

Again, both teams were quiet into the next three innings, forcing the game into extras.

Top of the 10th, Coast Guard shut down Babson in four batters.

Home half of the 10th, with a runner on first, Barkley walked it off with a game-winning double, clinching the 4-3 victory.

Barkley was 3-5 at the plate with three RBIs. Vito Giordano recorded five strikeouts for the Bears.

Game two was another extra inning thriller, with the Bears coming up jusgt short, 6-4.

Babson struck early on this time, plating two runs in the top of the first and one in the second. 

Coast Guard got its first run across in the bottom of the fourth as Tacchini hit an RBI single. CGA addede two more to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth. Carson Cho double to bring a run home and Stafford singled to get another in. 

The Bears took the lead in the bottom of the seventh with another Stafford RBI single, going up 4-3. 

Next half inning, the Beavers answered with a run of their own, tying it up again.

Neither team scored before the end of the ninth, taking the came into the 10th inning. 

Top of the 10th, Babson added on, with a two-run inning. 

Coast Guard couldn't respond, dropping game two, 6-4.

Stafford went 2-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Harrison Milbert recorded six strikeouts, while Ryan Karman had four.

Coast Guard will next play at Springfield on April 30th at 3:30 PM
