Box Score 2 NEW LONDON, Conn. –- Yesterday, Bears Baseball kicked off New England Women and Men Athletic Conference (NEWMAC} play in a doubleheader series against MIT.
In game one, CGA led MIT 2-0 up until the top of the fifth inning. Bears Pitcher John Thigpen didn't allow MIT to get on the board for four straight innings. The Engineers hit two homers in the top of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead.
MIT would add one more in the top of the seventh. Unfortunately for the Bears, they could not get the bats going and would fall to the Engineers 4-2. CGA left eight runners on base in the first game.
Offensively for CGA, Justin Stasiak doubled in the bottom of the second. Kael Godshalk and Jack Steel each had an RBI.
On the mound, Thigpen had three strikeouts and threw 52 strikes out of 77 pitches.
In game two, Bears got on the board right out the gate, from a Steel RBI to score Blake Carroll.
Then in the top of the third inning, the Engineers tied the score up, 1-1. They would add a few more to their lead, but the Bears would answer back in the bottom of the fifth.
B. Carroll and John Carroll would each hit in a run and Coast Guard would start to chip away at MIT's lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Bears came back to tie it up 6-6. But in the top of the eighth inning, The Engineers would score eight runs.
In the final inning, CGA would get the bats going and score six runs in the top of the ninth. Their efforts would not be enough, and they would fall by just two for a final score of 17-15.
At the plate, Greg Boland homered and J. Carroll, Grayson Irwin, and Justin Stasiak each hit a double. Steel would simply be too fast for MIT's catcher and would have four stolen bases in game two.
Bears are back in action this Tuesday, April 4th, as they hit the road to play Babson.
