Bears sweep Rhode Island College to close out 2026 campaign

Providence, R.I. –

On the road in Providence for the final games of their season, Coast Guard baseball ended their year on a high note with a doubleheader sweep of Rhode Island College. The Anchormen conclude their season with a 10-23 record. CGA on the other hand climbs back to .500 at 17-17 and finishes the year on a four game winning streak.

Game One: Coast Guard 9, RIC 6 (7 Inn.); Box Score

In game one, the Bears bats got going right away. After walking off Hartford three days ago, sophomore Max Van Auken (Franklinville, NJ) got an RBI in his first at bat of today, scoring Carson Cho (Haymarket, VA) with a sacrifice fly. RIC would answer in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own.

Bears starter Raymond Priddy (Chico, CA) went the first two innings, allowing just one run. The CGA pitching staff got some support in the 3rd inning when the Bear bats came alive. Nate Stafford (Jupiter, FL) started the hit party with a solo shot over the center field fence. After Stafford, Van Auken and Yadisson Karbalaieasghar (Coral Springs, FL) both doubled and later scored, with Karbalaieasghar scoring on a Drew Basque (Kealakekua, HI) single.

In the bottom of that inning, Conor Watts (Mahopac, NY) entered the game. He would end up earning the win with 1.2 innings of work. The Bears tacked on more runs in the 5th and 6th, with seniors Kael Godshalk (Bangor, PA) and Luke Percifield (Pinellas Park, FL) dealing much of the damage.

In the final two innings, the Anchormen made the Bears sweat, scoring two runs in the 6th and 7th innings but Bears closer Jackson Dorsey (Newark, DE) shut the door with a one out save to give the Bears a 9-6 game one win. In game one, the Bears had seven extra base hits and five men with multiple hits.

Game Two: Coast Guard 2, RIC 0 (7 Inn.); Box Score

After a slug fest in game one, there was a great pitchers duel in game two, with the Bears staff coming out on top with a combined shutout.

After a 0-0 score through three innings, Coast Guard got all the scoring they would need in the 4th inning. Carson Cho led off the innings with a double and was advanced to third by Nate Stafford. With the runner on third, Max Van Auken did the job with an RBI ground ball to score Cho.

Throwing the first three innings for CGA was sophomore southpaw John DiMarsico (Severna Park, MD). DiMarsico struck out three and gave up just two hits in his three innings of scoreless work. Following DiMarsico was a trio of seniors: Harrison Milbert (Kingston, MA), Jack Spinnato (Clearwater, FL), and Blaise Oeding (Bloomington, IN), who combined for three innings of masterful no-hit work.

In the top of the 7th, Coast Guard got one run of insurance with a Connor Cilento (Point Pleasant, NJ) RBI single to score Yadisson Karbalaieasghar who earlier singled.

In the bottom of the inning, senior right-hander Tyler Michalek (Fort Worth, TX), escaped a jam with the tying runs on base and just one out to earn the save and close out the Bears season with a win.
