Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Coast Guard Baseball was on the road today against Albertus Magnus and scored eight runs alone in the ninth for a final score of 16-12.
Bears attacked first from a solo Blake Carroll homer to make the score 1-0, heading into the bottom of the first. The Falcons quickly answered back, scoring three for a 3-1 lead to start the second.
In the top of the fifth, a Jack Steel double tied up the score 5-5. The Bears were able to hold the Falcons in the bottom of the fifth, not even allowing them to get on base.
In the sixth inning, CGA batted in three more runs to lead Albertus Magnus 8-4. However, in the seventh the Falcons would tie up the score once again, 8-8.
In the top of the ninth, CGA found themselves in a four point deficit, but they weren't done yet.
Freshman, Richard Barkley started the Bears rally by hitting a two-run homer to right field. Bears were still down two.
The Bears finally took back the lead after Steel singled, hitting two runs in, for a score of 13-12.
A one-run lead simply wasn't enough for CGA and Kael Godshalk hit a three-run homer for a Bears lead of 16-12. In the bottom of the ninth, CGA would shut down the Falcons completely. Aidan Andersen secured the win for the Bears on the mound.
John Thigpen threw four strikeouts in four innings pitched. Jack Spinnato, Tyler Michalek, and Andersen would all have one strikeout each.
CGA Baseball will be back on their home field this Sunday and face Bates at 1 PM and 3:30 PM.
