Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – Tonight, Coast Guard Men's Basketball traveled across town to Mitchell College to start day one of the Cadet/Mariner Classic where they beat City College of New York, 76-72.
The Beavers got the first points of the half, but the Bears came back and tied it up 4-4. However, at 12:33 left in the first, the Bears found themselves down by six. Then, a
Mitch Shettles three would bring the Bears within two points of the lead just two minutes later.
With 8:10 left in the first, Coast Guard would find themselves down by six once again and would be forced to take a timeout. The Beavers would continue to hold the lead and would go into halftime leading 30-23.
The Bears trailed the Beavers for the first ten minutes of the second half. Then,
Elijah Parent assisted by
Cameron Brown would make a basket from beyond the arc to tie up the score 56-56 with 9:15 left to play.
Coast Guard would then take their first lead of the half at 6:35 in the second. A
Declan Rooney three assisted by Brown would make the score 62-61. With just 1:43 left in the game, the Beavers would trail the Bears by four and be forced to take a timeout.
After being down the majority of the first, Coast Guard battled back in the second half to take the win. The Bears would drop the Beavers in their first game of the Cadet/Mariner Classic for a final score of 76-72.
Jordan Frazer led all players with 26 points, four assists, and three rebounds.
Cameron Brown led the Bears with 13 rebounds and the second most points for the Bears, stitching 12 points on the night.
Coast Guard Men's Basketball will continue tournament play tomorrow on their home court at 3 PM against Westfield State.
