Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Early deficit proves too much for Bears to overcome at Babson

The U.S. Coast Guard Academy men's basketball team suffered their third straight loss to Babson College, 69-86, on Wednesday night at Staake Gymnasium.

With this loss, the Bears fall to 6-14 on the season and 2-10 in the NEWMAC. On the other hand, the Babson Beavers now sit at 14-6 and 8-3 respectively. Saturday, February 7th, the Beavers will continue NEWMAC Conference play when they host Springfield College (8-12, 6-5).

Coast Guard had 3 players in double digits: Elijah Parent (Bristol, Conn.) with 16 points, Ashton Kendall (Baltimore, Md.) with 15 points, and Luke Farrell (Ortley Beach, N.J.) with 14 points. Farrell also led the Bears in rebounds with 7.

Babson was led by an all-around game from Timmy O'Toole with 12 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals, and 2 blocks. The Beavers' leading scorer was Timmy Mulvey with 20 points (7-16 from the field and 5-12 from 3).

After down 0-11 to start the contest, the Bears managed to fight their way back into the game to make it a 33-42 game in favor of Babson at the end of the first half.

The Bears would go on an almost 4 minute scoreless run in the second half that would end up costing them the game with the Beavers continuing to make deep 3-point attempts to increase their lead. The ultimate downfall for the Bears would be their 19 turnovers compared to the Beavers' 11 turnovers.

Coast Guard men's basketball will look to end their 3-game losing streak as they host Clark University (12-9, 7-5) on Saturday February 7th at 1pm ET at Alumni Gymnasium.
