Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – Cody Fidler threw a complete game scattering nine hits while walking one and striking out four as Coast Guard won its seventh straight with a 4-1 win over Babson in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game. It was the Bears first win over Babson since 2016 snapping a 10-game slide.
Coast Guard won its seventh straight for the first time since 2002 and the Bears improve to 12-6 overall and 3-0 in the NEWMAC while Babson drops to 11-8 and 2-1.
Fidler improved to 4-0 on the season and leads the conference with four wins and a 1.24 ERA.
Greg Boland had three hits, including a home run, his team leading third of the season to lead the Bears' 10-hit attack, while Blake Carroll and John Carroll collected two hits each.
Coast Guard took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Wyatt Duthu laced a one-out double down the left-field line and later scored on an infield grounder. The Bears added two more runs in the fourth when Boland homered to right and John Carroll singled and scored one batter later following a pair of Babson errors.
Babson got on the board in the top of the seventh when Francis Kiely led off with a double down the left field line and came around to score on Alex Reynolds' single to left. That ended up as the only Beaver run as the visitors stranded eight runners on base in the game, including five in scoring position.
The Bears added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh when Justin Stasiak was hit by a pitch and came around to score on singles by Nate Nam and Blake Carroll.
Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday when the Bears host Emerson in a NEWMAC doubleheader at noon.
