MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Blake Carroll and Charles Red each had three hits leading Coast Guard to a 16-8 win over Gwynedd Mercy at the Cal Ripken Experience>

Nate Nam and John Carroll each drove in three runs for the Bears who improve to 1-1 on the season.

John Carroll and Cody Fidler, who doubled and tripled, also had two hits in the win for Coast Guard which had 12 hits. 

Dan Wolf (1-0) got the win in relief as he worked 3 1/3 innings and allowed just one run before Aidan Andersen allowed just one run over the final two to close out the game.

Coast Guard led 10-4 before Gwynedd Mercy score three in the fourth to cut the deficit to 10-7. The Bears exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth capped on a two-run triple by Fidler for a 15-7 lead.

Coast Guard led 15-6 after the first four innings which took two hours before the bullpens settled down and each team scratched across a run over the final five innings.

The Bears are back in action Sunday against Bethany (W.V.) in a doubleheader at 5:15.
