SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –
In a Tuesday afternoon game at Archie Allen Field on the campus of Springfield College, Coast Guard fell by a score of 4-0 to the Pride. The win improves Springfield to 15-5 (4-1 NEWMAC) and drops the Bears to 7-12 (1-6 NEWMAC).
The Bears left eight men on and had traffic on the bases in seven of the nine innings but were unable to capitalize and convert those opportunities into runs. Springfield on the other hand did all of their scoring in two innings, scoring twice in both the 2nd and 4th inning.
After the 4th inning, senior right hander
Tyler Michalek (Haslet, TX) entered the game and kept the Bears alive with four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five. Michalek relieved freshman starter
Alexander Smith (Fairfield, OH) who threw the first four.
At the dish, the Bears scratched across eight hits, three of which came off the bat of freshman shortstop
Yadisson Karbalaieasghar (Coral Springs, FL). The lone extra base hit of the day came on a two-out second inning double by
Drew Basque (Kealakekua, HI) who was later on base again in the 7th inning when he was hit by pitch.
The Bears will be back in action tomorrow afternoon in Providence with a 4:00 PM start vs the Johnson & Wales Wildcats. JWU currently sits at 7-15 on the year after a 4-1 loss at Nichols College earlier today.
