Bears drop tight non conference game at JWU

PROVIDENCE, R.I. --

Wednesday afternoon, Coast Guard men's baseball lost a close one on the road at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I. with a final score of 3-1. The win improves JWU to 8-15 and Coast Guard drops to 7-13.

Coast Guard got an early 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning as junior Nate Stafford (Jupiter, Fla.) reached on a fielding error and advanced to second, then to third base on a wild pitch. Senior Tyler Michalek (Fort Worth, Tex.) hit a single to right field to bring in Stafford.

The Bears just could not get the bats to connect today as they only managed 4 hits. In the bottom of the 6th, the Wildcats tied the game at 1 run a piece on a groundout RBI. They went on to take the lead in the bottom of the 7th via a 2 RBI single from Corey Magil.

The Bears will look to rebound on the road at Emerson College in Newbury, Mass. for a doubleheader Saturday April 11th. The first game will start at Noon and the second is scheduled for 3:30 EST
