Bears Rally Twice to Give Coach Casey Sweep Over JWU and His Brother

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Coast Guard had outstanding performances from the bullpen in both games as the Bears came from behind twice to sweep Johnson and Wales 9-7 and 2-1 giving head coach Brian Casey the sweep over his younger brother Kevin, the head coach at Johnson & Wales in the first meeting between the two siblings.

Four pitchers came out of the bullpen in the doubleheader sweep and combined for eight and 1/3 scoreless innings allowing just four hits.

Coast Guard improves to 8-6 on the season while the Wildcats drop to 2-12.

The Bears are back in action on Wednesday when they host Westfield State at 3:30.

GAME ONE – COAST GUARD 9, JOHNSON & WALES 7

Coast Guard scored four runs in the sixth to erase a 7-5 deficit for the game one win.

Dan Wolf (2-0) came on in relief and got the win as he threw two and 2/3 innings and allowed just one hit while walking one and fanning a pair. Aidan Andersen pitched the final inning allowed a hit and struck out a batter to pickup his first career save.

Blake Carroll had three hits including a triple and drove in two runs while Justin Stasiak added a pair of hits and Charles Red drove in three runs.

Grayson Irwin blasted his first career homer to center in the second as the Bears cut the early deficit to 2-1.

Coast Guard erupted for four runs in the third as they scored back-to-back runs on wild pitches to take a 3-2 lead before Blake Carroll and Charles Red delivered RBI singles as the Bears took a 5-2 lead.

The Wildcats scored five runs in the fourth to regain the lead 7-5.

Coast Guard took the lead with four in the sixth. Blake Carroll tied the game on an RBI infield single before Red's fielder's choice and ensuing throwing error led to a pair of runs and a 9-7 lead.

Carroll, Stasiak, Wyatt Duthu and Nate Nam each scored a pair of runs for the Bears in the win.

GAME TWO – COAST GUARD 2, JOHNSON & WALES 1

John Carroll was 3 for 3 and had three of the Bears four hits including the go ahead RBI double in the fifth as the Bears completed the sweep.

Brock Soletti (2-0) came on relief and allowed just two hits over three 2/3 innings and he struck out a career-high five to get the win. Wyatt Duthu pitched a perfect seventh to get his first career save.

Soletti worked out of a jam in the sixth when JWU had runners on first and second with nobody out to keep the one run lead.

The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the third before Coast Guard scored twice in the fifth. The Bears tied the game on a double steal as Jack Steel stole home and Blake Carroll stole second. John Carroll's double scored Blake Carroll with the go ahead run.
