Box Score KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Merchant Marine jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings and beat Coast Guard 10-3 in a non-conference game.
The Mariners snap a four-game slide and improve to 4-9 while the Bears drop to 5-6 on the season.
Jacob Syveren (2-1) went the first five innings and allowed four hits and three runs to get the win. Charles Red (0-2) was the starter and took the loss for Coast Guard.
Brock Soletti was fantastic in relief for Coast Guard as he fired four scoreless innings allowing just one hit while walking two and striking out four.
Wyatt Duthu was 3 for 3 with an RBI to lead the Coast Guard offense accounting for three of Coast Guard's five hits as Blake Carroll added a double and Jack Steel singled.
The Bears scored all three runs in the fifth with an RBI single by Duthu, a bases loaded walk to Cody Fidler and a sacrifice fly by Greg Boland.
Coast Guard is back in action on Wednesday when they host Albertus Magnus on Wednesday at 3:30.
