Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The United States Coast Guard Academy Men's Basketball team lost to Mitchell College 80 -66 in Alumni Gymnasium at Mitchell. The Bears, who trailed by 9 points at the half, went on a 10-0 run to start the second half. Jarrod Jackson (Sr. Carrolton, GA) and Declan Rooney (So. Seattle, WA) each scored 5 points to give the bears the lead at 44-43. Mitchell went on a 9-0 run to take a 52-44 lead. Mitchell would extend their lead to 59-50 with Jalen Benson and Wilton Causey providing the offense. With 9:58 to go in the game, Cameron Brown (So. Ellicott City, MD) scored a lay-up which started the Coast Guard comeback.
The Bears would outscore Mitchell 12-4 and trailed 63-62 with 5:50 left in the game. Mitchell finished the game on a 17-4 run to pick up their 8th win of the season. Mitchell was led by Jalen Benson (24pts) and Alfonso Stokes (21 points). Mitchell shot 45.1% from the field and shot 17 free throws for the game. Coast Guard was led by Declan Rooney (23 pts.) and Jarrod Jackson with 10 pts. Coast Guard shot 38.7% from the floor and only went to the foul line 4 times the entire game.
The Bears are back in action on Sunday 12/18 at 2 pm when they visit Division I opponent Fairfield University.
