NEW LONDON, Conn. – Jacob Morales led four Springfield players in double figures with 18 points as the Pride beat Coast Guard 78-69 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Springfield improves to 4-10 overall and 2-3 in the NEWMAC while the Bears drop to 3-10 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
Panayiotis Kapanides (15), Daryl Costa (13) and Nick Bray (11) were also in double figures for the Pride while Justin Dunne led the team with eight rebounds.
Declan Rooney had a team-high 14 points off the bench to lead the Bears while Jarrod Jackson (11) and Tyler Perez (10) were also in double figures for the Bears. Cameron Brown had a career and game-high 11 rebounds off the bench for Coast Guard.
Springfield shot 51.9 percent (28-54) and connected on 10 of 24 from beyond the arc while the Bears were 25 of 61 (41 percent) from the floor and hit 11 of 30 from downtown.
The Pride used a 13-3 run over the final 4:30 of the first half to turn a 31-23 lead into a 44-26 halftime advantage.
Coast Guard would use a 10-2 spurt to cut the deficit to 67-57 with 4:11 left.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday at Babson at 1:00.
