Bears Drop Pair to #21 Wheaton

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Wheaton, ranked 21st nationally, swept a doubleheader from Coast Guard winning 10-4 and 18-3 in a non-conference games on Senior Day for the Bears.

Wheaton improves to 8-2 on the season while the Bears end the regular season 3-5. Coast Guard has the NEWMAC bye next week and will have to wait and see if they qualify for the NEWMAC postseason which begins on May 8th.

GAME ONE – WHEATON 10, COAST GUARD 4

Gavin Reilly (3-1) went 7 1/3 innings allowing five hits and just one earned run while striking out three and Jacob Studley and Andrew Spirito each drove in three runs to lead the Lyons to the 10-4 win in the opener.

Studley had three hits including a pair of doubles while Mark D'Augelli homered in the win for Wheaton.

Blake Carroll had two hit including a three-run homer in the eighth while Tom Ankers also added two hits for Coast Guard.

PJ Gravalec (0-2) took the loss for the Bears.


GAME TWO – WHEATON 18, COAST GUARD 3

The Lyons broke the game open with seven runs in the fifth taking a 10-1 lead en route to the 18-3 win.

George Mulcahey was 5 for 6 and drove in four runs to highlight Wheaton's 20 hit attack while D'Augelli added three hits and drove in two runs.

Blake Carroll and Greg Boland each two hits for Coast Guard while Jack McNiff and Jacob Wagner each collected their first career hits in the sixth inning.

Griffin Young (3-0) allowed just five hits and one run over the first five innings and fanned seven to get the win.

Nate Ralph (1-2) took the loss for the Bears.
