Box Score 2 FORT MYERS, Fla. – PJ Gravalec pitched a complete game and Jon Pressley drove in five runs as Coast Guard beat Merchant Marine 14-1 to salvage a split of a doubleheader after dropping the opener 2-1 in eight innings at the Gene Cusic Classic.
GAME ONE – MERCHANT MARINE 2, COAST GUARD 1 (8 INNINGS)
Coast Guard's Brett Sullivan and Merchant Marine's Ben Kane hooked up in a pitchers' duel in a game where all three runs were unearned.
Sullivan scattered five hits and fanned five with one walk in seven innings. Lucas Caskey was touched for an unearned run in the eighth and took the loss.
Coast Guard tied the game 1-1 in the fifth when Alex Cordes walked and later stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher.
Blake Carroll had two of the Bears three hits in the loss.
GAME TWO – COAST GUARD 14, MERCHANT MARINE 1
Gravalec allowed an unearned run, four hits, did not walk a batter and fanned six and got all the runs he would need in the first as Coast Guard jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening frame.
Cody Fidler led the Bears with hits including a double while driving in a pair of runs.
Jon Pressley had two hits and drove in five while Brett Sullivan had a double, triple and Dylan Donahue added a pair of hits and drove in two in the win.
Blake Carroll had a double, walked three times and scored three runs for the Bears, who had 13 hits.
Justin Staskiak had his first collegiate hit, an RBI single, and also scored a pair of runs.
The Bears (1-2) are back in action on Tuesday against SUNY Canton at 9:00.
