Bears Out Slug MIT 21-15

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- Senior Jeremy Lhotka (2-for-4) and freshman Cody Fidler (2-for-5) each had five RBI's to lead Coast Guard baseball to a huge, 21-15 victory over MIT in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday. The Bears improve to 14-10 overall and 4-6 in the NEWMAC, while MIT drops to 13-8-1 overall and 5-2 in the conference.

Senior Will Stephens (1-for-3) and junior Alex Cordes (1-for-4) both added a pair of RBI's. Luke Thompson (3-for-5), Tom Ankers (4-for-5) Jake Behne (1-for-5), Reed Jenkins (1-for-5), and Trey Rittenhouse (1-for-4) each had an RBI in the Bears victory.

Lhotka hit a two-run homerun in the top of the first to kickoff the first inning. MIT answered and scored four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-2 lead.

The Engineers extended their lead with three more runs in the bottom of the second to hold a 7-2 advantage.

The Bears brought themselves within three in the top of the third as Lhotka brought in another run and Behne hit an RBI double to cut the deficit, 7-4.

MIT scored nine runs in the third and fourth inning to take a 13-4 lead over the Bears.

Coast Guard answered in the top of the fifth. Lhotka had an RBI single to start things off, trailing 13-5. Cordes hit a two-run double to make it 13-9 and Stephens tied it 13-13 on a two-run single, taking advantage of the Engineers errors.

The Bears took the lead in the top of the sixth as Fidler grounded out and sent Behne home to take a 14-13 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Fidler hit a two-run single to send Lhotka and Thompson home. Behne took advantage on a passed ball and scored to give the Bears a 17-13 lead.

The Bears scored four more runs in the top of the eighth to hold a 21-13 advantage.

MIT hit a two-run homerun but they Bears had already done their damage to take the 21-15 final.

Freshman Connor Glynn pitched five innings with five strikeouts and one run as he improves to 5-0 on the season.

Coast Guard is back in action tomorrow at home when they jump out of conference to play Wesleyan at 4:00 PM.
