MIT Beats Bears 10-6

NEW LONDON, Conn. – MIT scored six runs in the fifth to erase a 3-1 deficit and beat Coast Guard 10-6 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

Cory O'Shea had two hits including a double and drove in three runs to lead MIT while Jared Schwait, Matt Johnston and Andrew Krause all had two hit and drove in a run as the Engineers improved to 14-12-1 overall and 6-6 in the NEWMAC.

Tom Ankers had three hits and drove in a pair to lead Coast Guard while Jeremy Lhotka and Cody Fidler each added two hit for the Bears, who drop to 14-14 overall and 4-10 in the NEWMAC. The Bears would leave 16 runners on base walk 12 batters and hit four more in the loss.

Travis Hank (1-0) got the win in relief as he pitched a scoreless fourth inning before MIT took the lead with a six run fifth. Thomas Allison allowed just two runs on four hits while walking two and striking out six over the final five innings to pick up the save.

Dan Finn (0-2) took the loss for the Bears as he was touched for four runs, three earned in the fifth.

Coast Guard led 4-0 as they got one in the first Fidler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and then in the second Ankers had an RBI double before a two-run single by Will Stephens to make it 4-0.

Allison drove in a run on a fielder's choice in the third and then in the fifth MIT had three hits and took advantage of four walks and two hit batters.

In the fifth, Johnston had an RBI triple, Andrew Krause added an RBI single before O'Shea was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game. The go ahead run scored on a wild pitch before Jared Schwait drew a bases loaded walk and the final run of the inning scored on a passed ball for a 7-4 lead.

Fidler had an RBI single in the sixth before Ankers RBI double in the seventh pulled the Bears to within 7-6.

Zach Roberts drew a bases loaded walk in the eighth before O'Shea's two-run single gave MIT the 10-6 lead.

Coast Guard is back in action on Thursday at Dean in a non-conference game at 3:30.
