Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – Freshman Nate Ralph allowed two runs over six innings and junior Jeremy Lhotka had three hits and drove in three runs leading Coast Guard to a 6-3 non-conference win over Albertus Magnus.
Ralph (1-0) picked up his first career win going six innings and allowing a pair of earned runs on four hits while walking four and striking out six. Junior Bryan Delp allowed a run over 1 2/3 innings before freshman Lukas Caskey retired the final four batters for his second career saves in his second collegiate appearance.
Lhotka was 3 for 4 with a sacrifice fly and three RBI's while juniors Luke Thompson and Will Stephens each added two hits for the Bears, who improved to 6-4 on the season.
Brandon Clark, Matt Warren and Justen Rodriguez each had a pair of hits for Albertus Magnus, which dropped to 4-7 on the season.
The Bears got on the board in the second on an RBI ground out by sophomore Alex Cordes scoring Lhotka, who led off the inning with a single. Albertus tied the game in the third on an RBI single by Clark.
Lhotka had a sacrifice fly and sophomore Brett Sullivan, had his first career hit, an RBI single in his first official at bat, in the third inning to give Coast Guard a 3-1 lead.
The Bears added one more run in the fourth on RBI single by Lhotka before the Falcons scratched one across in the sixth on an RBI ground out by Tom Crocco making the score 4-2.
Cordes roped a two-out RBI double in the right center gap in the seventh to give the Bears a 5-2 lead. Albertus got one back in the eighth on an RBI single by Rodriguez cutting the deficit to 5-3.
The Bears added an insurance run in the eighth on Lhotka's RBI single to close the scoring.
Shawn McFeggan (1-2) took the loss for Albertus. He went 5 2/3 innings allowed seven hits, four runs, two earned while walking three and striking out six.
Coast Guard is back in action on Tuesday when the Bears host Emerson in a NEWMAC game at 3:30.
