Gravalec Wins Collegiate Debut

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Freshman PJ Gravalec allowed just two hits and one earned run over seven innings in his collegiate debut leading Coast Guard to a 9-2 win over Baruch at the Gene Cusic Classic.

Gravalec allowed a double in the first and a double in the third while walking three and fanning five to pick up the win as the Bears improved to 2-1. Baruch dropped to 1-7-1 on the season.

Coast Guard erupted for five runs in the first and junior Reed Jenkins two-run double highlighted the inning. Junior Will Stephens had an RBI double to get the Bears on the board scoring senior Alex Murdoch, who singled. Junior Trey Rittenhouse capped the inning  with an RBI single for a 5-0 lead.

Baruch got on the board in the third before Jenkins led off the home half of the inning with a double and scored on an error for a 6-1 lead.

Rittenhouse led off the fifth with a double and scored on an error pushing the lead to 7-1 and in the sixth Jeremy Lhotka singled and sophomore Alex Cordes doubled before junior Jake Behne's RBI infield single made the score 8-1.

The Bears added one more in the seventh as junior Luke Thompson singled and eventually came around on a past ball extending the lead to 9-1.

Jenkins had a pair of double for Coast Guard while Rittenhouse and Murdoch each had two hits for the Bears in the win.

The Bears are back in action on Tuesday when they take on Gallaudet at 9 a.m. in the Gene Cusic Classic.
