Bears Fall to MIT

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Sophomore Cameron Korb hit six 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 22 points leading MIT to a 77-60 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

MIT, which has won 10 of its last 11, improves to 11-3 overall and 3-0 in the NEWMAC while Coast Guard drops to 5-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Junior Spencer Rust added 15 points, all in the first half, while senior Tim Butala had a double-double finishing with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore AJ Jurko finished with nine points, seven rebounds and a game-high seven assists for the Engineers.

Freshman Noah Baldez had a team-high 13 points while classmate Patrick Witkowski finished with 11 points while senior Devon Zych added 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds and three blocks.

MIT jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first 90 seconds of the game. The Engineers led 26-20 following a 3-pointer by Noah Baldez with 10:54 left.

MIT went on an 11-1 run capped on a pair of free throws by Jurko with 7:20 left giving the Engineers a 37-22 lead. MIT led 48-33 at the half as they shot 54.5 percent (18-33) in the first half including 6 of 14 from 3-point range.

Korb knocked down three consecutive 3-pointers for MIT during a 14-4 run to start the second half as MIT took a commanding 62-37 lead with 14:56 left in the game.

Coast Guard would make a run outscoring MIT 13-2 to close to 67-51 with 8:43 left.

The Engineers shot 44.8 percent in the win (26-58) while making 12 of 30 from behind the arc while the Bears were 23 of 68 (33.8 percent) making 5 of 20 from 3-point range.

The Bears are back in action on Saturday at Clark with tip set for 1:00.
