Women's Rowing takes on New England Championships

LAKE QUINSIGAMOND, Mass. — 

United States Coast Guard Academy women's rowing returned to Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts, this past weekend for the New England Rowing Championships. The Bears pitted three boats against the top programs in the region.

In the 3V, Coast Guard held a strong start off the line, but was unable to match the speed of the other crews. The boat finishing 4th in their heat and advanced to the afternoon's petite final. where they were able to post their best time of the season at 7:47.75. Coast Guard finished 5th in the race, ahead of Thames River rival Connecticut College, while Tufts went on to win the event in a time of 7:08.37.

For the 2V, Coast Guard put together a strong pace in the heat but was unable to relax into their rhythm. They finished 4th with a time of 7:40.90, just seconds behind Colby College. Both crews advanced to the petite final. which saw the Bears find their rhythm and close the gap on the Mules to finish in a 7:22.74, just 0.1 seconds behind Colby and 0.2 seconds ahead of Bowdoin College. Tufts won the event with a time of 6:52.12.

Closing out the day was the 1V race, in which Coast Guard finished 4th in a competitive field to advance to the petite final. With a fast set of crews for the afternoon racing, the Bears held their position well to finish 5th and just two seconds ahead of NEWMAC foes WPI. MIT won the event with a time of 6:44.60.
