CAMBRIDGE, Mass. —
The United States Coast Guard Academy women's rowing team competed on the Charles River this past weekend to open up their spring 2026 campaign.
Starting off the racing was the 1V8. Led by junior coxswain
Alexa Hartley (Vienna, Va.), the boat had a strong start coming off the line at 40 strokes per minute before settling to a base rate of 35. While the crew held a strong push through the race, it was not enough to hold on to a stronger MIT crew. MIT finished the race in a time of 7:14.20, followed by Coast Guard in a time of 7:33.40.
Following the 1V race was the 2V8. Coast Guard trailed off the start line and was unable to push back into the MIT lead. The Engineers won the race with a time of 7:28.9 and Coast Guard finished with a time of 7:53.8.
The final race of the day was the Varsity 4. Coast Guard entered two boats, but MIT finished first in the event with a time of 8:27.5, 30 seconds ahead of Coast Guard's first four. Coast Guard's second four, stroked by senior
Madeline Fontana (Arlington, Va.), finished with a time of 9:13.7 to conclude the day of racing.
