NEW LONDON, Conn. —
The United States Coast Guard Academy women's rowing program continued their regular season campaign on Saturday, April 11th, by hosting Colby College on the Thames River. It was a battle of nationally-ranked teams, with the Bears sitting at #12 in the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association poll while the Mules entered at #7. Conditions were tough with a 14 mile-per-hour headwind increasing to 18mph in the later races.
The 1V race led off the morning with a great battle. After falling behind off the line, Coast Guard was able to fight back in the second half of the race to find the lead across the finish line. Coast Guard finished in a time of 7:32.50, with Colby following a close seven seconds behind.
The 2V and 3V boats put forth strong showings, but ultimately fell to the Mules' depth. The Colby 2V finished in a time of 7:59.9, with Coast Guard finishing 12.3 seconds behind. In the last race of the day and in the strongest headwind, Colby's 3V finished in a time of 8:14.2 with Coast Guard crossing the line in a time of 8:54.6.
