NEW LONDON, Conn. — 

United States Coast Guard Academy baseball sophomore Max Van Auken (Franklinville, N.J.) and softball freshman Zoey Lynn (Nokomis, Fla.) have been named the CoastGuardAthletics.com Cadet-Athletes of the Week, presented by First Command, for their performances during the week ending on Sunday, March 15th.

Van Auken is off to a hot start in his second season of collegiate baseball. Across four games last week, the New Jersey product went 6-for-16 for .375 batting average with four runs batted in and two runs scored, recording a hit and an RBI in all four games. The sophomore went 2-for-5 and recorded the game-tying RBI in his team's eventual 10-7 victory over Randolph-Macon College last Tuesday, and went 2-for-3 during a 3-0 win in game two of Saturday's doubleheader with Westfield State University to help baseball split with the Owls.

Lynn was a big contributor at the plate and in the circle for multiple games of softball's 6-2 spring break trip, going 6-for-7 at the plate and allowing no earned runs and striking out nine over 13 full innings of work. Her best game of the trip was against Penn State Beaver, in which when was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and five RBIs while twirling five innings of shutout softball with four strikeouts in a 9-1 mercy rule victory. She was great again the next day against Penn State Scranton, going 2-for-3 with the bat while striking out five over six innings in another mercy rule 17-2 win.

Van Auken and Bears baseball are making the trip to Kings Point tonight for their annual match-up with the United States Merchant Marine Academy (4-2) at 6:30 PM ET, while Lynn and the softball team will be waiting until Tuesday, March 24th to play a doubleheader at Roger Williams University (4-5).
