The Coast Guard women's swim team sent themselves into the final day of the NEWMAC Championships in 2nd with 528 points.
Megan Doubrava(Aurora, CO),
Tessa Breitbart(Roseville, CA), and
Kendra Hiigel(Pembroke Pines, FL) each qualified for the 400 IM finals. In the finals, Doubrava just missed the podium in 4th place with Breitbart and Hiigel finishing 9th and 10th respectively.Â
Madelyn Paxton(Mechanicsburg, VA) qualified for 100 yard butterfly finals, finishing 6th in the night cap. In the 200 yard free,
Mikayla Jolley(Las Vegas, NV) took 5th in the finals with a time of 1:54.85.Â
The women's first podium of the night came from the aforementioned
Madelyn Paxton in the 100 yard backstroke. Along with teammate
Sam Halvorson(Chesapeake, VA), Paxton qualified for the finals. Halvorson took 7th with Paxton grabbing hold of third place late with an incredible second split after hitting the first wall in 5th. The dramatic third place finish for Paxton set a new school record in the 100 yard backstroke with her time of 57.19. Paxton broke her own record of 57.68, previously set in 2024.
In the final women's event of the night, the 200 yard medley relay team of
Madelyn Paxton,
Samantha Halvorson,
Rebecca Hurst, and
Julia Thomas(Chandler, AZ) put themselves on the podium with a stellar third place finish.
The Bears will compete on the final day of the NEWMAC Championships tomorrow morning at MIT.
