KING'S POINT, N.Y. –
Traveling to Merchant Marine for a key matchup in both the Women's swim season and the
Superintendent's Trophy standings, Coast Guard was dominant in a 226-64 win. The victory continues a dominant streak for the Bears women's swim team over USMMA that dates back over two decades.
The loss for the Mariners drops them to 7-4 on the season. They have the Skyline Championship Meet next weekend hosted by Purchase College.
For Coast Guard, their women won all 16 events on the day. That incredible day both started and ended with relay wins. The 200 yard medley relay of
Sam Halvorson(Chesapeake, VA),
Rebecca Hurst(Guilderland, NJ),
Madelyn Paxton(Mechanicsburg, VA), and
Julia Thomas(Chandler, AZ) kicked off the action with a winning time of 1:54.34. They closed out the day in similar fashion with the 200 yard freestyle relay of
Julia Thomas,
Kathleen O'Shea(Decatur, GA),
Eleanor Murphy(McLean, VA), and
Sam Halvorson hitting the finish at a time of 1:39.65.
On five occasions today, the Bears earned all three of the top podium spots in their event. The 200 yard freestyle saw
Mikayla Jolley(Las Vegas, NV),
Liliana Feyk(Carlsbad, CA), and
Julia Striker(Ringgold, GA) in the top three spots, Jolley winning with a time of 2:00.25. In both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle races,
Kathleen O'Shea and
Julia Thomas finished in the top two spots with
Eleanor Murphy third in the 50 and
Morgan Moore(Stafford, VA) third in the 100.
The two other top three sweeps were the 100 yard backstroke and 200 yard butterfly with
Sam Halvorson,
Madelyn Paxton, and
Kendra Hiigel(Pembroke Pines, FL) owning the backstroke and
Megan Doubrava(Aurora, CO),
Cammi Schaufelberger(Austin, TX), and
Celia Wyckoff(Minneapolis, MN) taking the butterfly. The first place finishers in those events each won another as Doubrava took the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:56.95 and Halvorson won the 200 yard backstroke at 2:07.41.
Zoe Suhajda(Colorado Springs, CO) finished second behind Doubrava in the 1000 free and won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:26.01.
Three other Bears won two events each.
Phoebe Jane Allred(Seattle, WA) dominated both diving events, scoring 206.40 points in the one meter dive and 218.85 in the three meter.
Rebecca Hurst won the 100 yard backstroke(1:10.50) and 200 yard breaststroke(2:34.35). Finally,
Madelyn Paxton won the 100 yard butterfly at 59.24, and in the penultimate women's event of the day, Paxton took the 200 yard IM in dominating fashion with a time of 2:13.40.
Coast Guard improves to 9-3 in the 25-26 campaign with the win. They will travel to Trinity College(CT) on Saturday January 24th with a 12:00 PM scheduled start.
